Every summer people of all ages and from many walks of life gather together for 10 days and collectively create a safe and caring community, living closely with nature, cooking around camp fires, sleeping under the stars, singing, dancing, drumming; creating an energetic structure in which a variety of workshops, craft making activities, ceremonies and celebrations take place.

This is the spirit of Oak Dragon Camps.

Oak Dragon Camps started in 1987 and since then there have been a continuous series of camps each with a different yearly theme. Our summer camp (usually held in August) is the main event of the year and is generally attended by fifty to eighty people. We find this is the optimum number - enough to form a cohesive community where all participants can get to know one another and feel part of the whole, small enough to remain a family.

Oak Dragon Camps are a non-profit making organization. We try and cover the expenses for running the camps whilst keeping costs to the individual as low as possible. Our aim is to provide a safe space in nature, where we can learn new skills, celebrate and expand ourselves in a supportive community. We also hold some smaller ‘Gatherings’ at cross-quarter days throughout the year.

Oak Dragon Camps are for anyone, of any age. As long as you like camping and have the basic weatherproof camping equipment you should enjoy it. Children are very welcome and some special activities for children are usually provided, in addition to which they are also welcome at many of the adult activities.

Amenities are rudimentary but more than adequate with, Marquee, geodesic domes, hot showers, toilets, small shop and children's area being provided within the site, which is chosen for its unique natural or locational qualities.

You do not have to be an experienced camper, but you do need to have the basic equipment, Waterproof tent, waterproof rainwear and adequate warm bedding. A full list of what to bring will be provided on booking. Pets are not permitted at Oak Dragon Camps and Gatherings and Oak Dragon Camps do not allow the use or possession of illegal drugs at any of its events.

Each Summer camp has a different themed programme, but the underlying ethos is to touch our inner more primitive side by being aware of the earth we stand on and the elements of nature that govern our existence. There is an element of mysticism, ceremony, learning and the sharing of new skills. The emphasis is on personal growth, supportive exploration, community engagement and opening up into new ways of thinking. We try and run the camps as democratically as we can – everyone has a voice – everyone has an ear – and everyone is encouraged to contribute in which any way they can. Oak Dragon camps usually contain a high level of fun, magic and merriment as well as peace and relaxation.
